Tropic Bird banding

This is a Tropic Bird and her chick. Look closely and right under the wing you can see a patch of downy fur!

The whole family.

Jessica is getting ready to band a Tropic Bird chick. When they are banded they are much older and bigger than the above chick.

Louis is her assistant. Louis really enjoys working with Jessica. Jessica is a student at U of Hawaii. She is very sweet and smart. She seems to like having Louis help.

Here, Jessica puts the metal band on the birds ankle. Louis holds on tight.

Banded.

The Mistubishi folks look on. (Hi Tom's wife!)

And the banded bird is returned to it's nest. Yes, this is it's nest!

  1. Hi Greg/Pam/Louis,

Of all the birds you photographed, I like the Tropic birds the most! The white terns are awesome too. The albatross - are those Laysan albatross, or a different species? - ttk
