On Sunday, at brunch, our friend Suzanne asked us if we wanted to go out for a kayak/boating/snorkeling trip on the reef - she is a monk seal researcher and wanted to get out and find out if there are any monk seals on the reef. Of course, we said yes!

Louis unhooks the boat from the
buoy. He is so great with helping Greg with the work part of boating.

Jessica (one of the volunteers) and Angela (John Hanna's granddaughter) came with us.

Happy to be here!

Suzanne and I went in the kayaks over to the reef.

We kayaked along the reef for about a mile looking for monk seals.

There were several old fishing nets and ropes on the reef. Suzanne went over and got this one off.
Lots of marine garbage.

This tern liked this old fishing float that had washed up onto the reef.
And then we all went snorkeling.

Louis found this old toilet!

This is a sea biscuit. I have found 5 or 6 of these. They are like puffed up sand dollars. I think they are in the same family as the sand dollar.

And, I found this old WWII shell casing!
(By the way, Suzanne spotted one monk seal.)

The end of another lovely day at Midway Atoll!
